Corridors Of Power

A former party boss who got nominated to the Senate is yet to make any meaningful contribution to debates in the House. She has instead been scrounging on the necks of journalists who cover Senate proceedings to have her well covered in the media. The Senator has vowed to ensure she is captured in news articles through “other forces” without doing much to attract the credit. Journalists are now wondering how best to cover the Mheshimiwa when she is yet to capture their convictions. The debate in the Upper House has been virtually left to the male Senators and a local university female lecturer as the other women assume spectatorship roles.

So fearful are the colleagues that they have resorted to letting her have a field day in choosing jobs. Recently, a seasonal MP who tried to secure employment for a friend got a rude shock when he was told he must be cleared by the highly patronising MP.

A Cabinet nominee appearing before the House vetting committe breathed a sigh of relief when his session ended without the questions he dreaded. He told corridors that he feared being asked about a policy document he prepared when he was at the helm of his department some years back. He also feared being asked about the tender involving government cars he helped procure that would latter be shrouded in controversy.
