The family had on Saturday notified police in Kitale that the head of their son, Ian Gachanja, was missing from the decomposed body that is set to undergo a postmortem examination at Mt Elgon District Hospital.
Ian had been missing for six months after he was kidnapped.
Notified the police
The deceased’s father, Mr Albert Karanja, said: “We were disturbed when at the morgue we realised that our son’s body had no head so we quickly notified the police to help us trace it,” wondering what motive the killers of his second born son had by be-heading him.
Mr Karanja said together with police they started the search on Sunday and found the head on Monday morning after returning to the well where the body was found.
Ian failed to return home from school on November 29, 2012. After his disappearance, his kidnappers asked for a Sh100,000 ransom of which his family paid half hoping that one day he would return.
