Corridors of Power

Journalists setting up equipment at State House yesterday for live coverage of a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and media editors were surprised to find Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko coordinating activities. Sonko was in the company of the President's private secretary Jomo Gecaga assessing and arranging the area where the meeting will take place.

The decision by Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to open a facebook account is causing ripples in the Police Service. Kimaiyo has been receiving security updates or complaints directly on his Facebook account from ordinary citizens and in turn uses the formal channels to confirm the information and order action. County Commanders and other senior cops are now striving to be on top of things in their areas of jurisdiction so they will not be caught off guard by the big man.

A public officer who worked as a spokesman to one of the country's top politicians is taking a low profile since his boss is no longer in government. The man can no longer actively engage in the political activities as his boss is having difficulties interacting with his friends who he used to treat for meals and drinks during the campaigns. The man recently whispered to one of his friends who cannot keep secrets that money no longer flows as before and he now has to rely on his civil service salary and nothing from his boss.

A certain private university has moved to make life for its students very difficult by sending them for internship in difficult areas. Corridors has learnt that every student must pay Sh5,000 to be issued with the school attachment logbook. The nature of this logbook, which the lecturers use to evaluate and justify the internship, is what amuses many. The book is about 100 pages and its contents are days of the week and a brief space to write the report of the day. How such as book costs Sh5,000 still amazes many.
