Corridors of Power

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka must be missing the services of the Vice President Press Unit. On Tuesday, he sent a statement which was lifted with spelling errors. The short statement calling on all Cord supporters who registered in the same station with Kethi Kilonzo to turn up at Orange House referred to “Gong Forest Primary school” instead of “Ngong Forest Primary school.” The statement also referred to “Match 4” instead of “March 4!”

Since President Uhuru Kenyatta was elected, the Presidential Press Service has almost every weekend been sending photos and stories of his predecessor Mwai Kibaki's activities. The restructuring at the former PPS now to be known as the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit seems to have established a team to deal with communication from the former president. Yesterday's photo and story about Kibaki's attendance at a church service was from "Kibaki Press Dispatch" So should we expect a Moi Press Dispatch in the near future? And just what will happen to the communication staff who were supposed to be deployed to serve the retired Kibaki?

First lady Margaret Kenyatta has been reading most of her speeches from a tablet instead of the papers provided by her press service assistants. It seems her aides have been asking her to persuade her husband to start using a tablet instead of the written speeches which he has been using. It see, the resistance is coming from some of the president's handlers who are afraid a tablet can be easily hacked. For now it looks like the 'digital' president is not going to get rid of his speeches which are invariably printed on cream colored 'analogue' note paper!

Youthful Mwala MP Vincent Musau is in trouble with the youth in his constituency after he recently told a meeting of women leaders that the youth were fighting him on Facebook and social media. The man allegedly threatened to arrest those fighting him politically drawing the wrath of the youth who came to know about the complaints from the young women who were at the meeting. They are now demanding that Musau apologize to them or they start a lobby to have him recalled.
