Corridors of Power

Thursday, July 18, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY THE POLITICAL DESK
A former permanent secretary who served in the grand coalition government has surprised staff at one of the ministry offices after he refused to vacate the office even after the appointment of a principal secretary to replace him. It is said the man reports to the office very early every morning and stays there until late in the evening even though he is not assigned any responsibilities and his name tag was removed from the door. The staff have become curious about what the man does every single day and some of the more daring ones have sought ways of establishing whether the man is still on payroll!

Once again the ugly head of corruption has raised its head again. It seems the recent reshuffling of police prosecutors serving at the Milimani courts only involved those who did not part with 'something small' to forestall the action. Our moles tell us that the prosecutors were summoned by their seniors and informed of the intended action. It was made clear to them those who did not want to be transferred to outlying stations had to 'offer something." Those who did not offer anything have now found themselves deployed to outlying stations. The question is, should the DPP or the top police hierarchy have the responsibility of transferring such officers? And just what does this say about the quality of prosecution and administration of justice?

=======
An MP who is facing an election petition is not leaving anything to chance. The MP is said to have visited the man who is challenging his election to persuade him to withdraw the case. To sweeten the deal, the MP has also offered the man wads of cash commensurate to the amount he spent on the campaign as well as the costs of the petition. Our moles tell us the MP cannot stand the public ridicule and humiliation if the petition succeeds.

========
A senior MP known for bragging about his unlimited access to the deputy president was recently taken aback when he was denied access to William Ruto’s office by the orderlies. Despite insisting that he should be allowed in fell on deaf years. And when he persisted in remaining at the office only to ambush the big man as he was leaving, the man was shocked when he was ignored and ordered to leave immediately.
