Corridors of Power

Wednesday, July 3, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
Just whats wrong with some of the city's traffic lights? Motorists using State House Road are at a loss to explain why the lights between this road and Kenyatta Avenue only seem to work from midnight until 3 am and are off for the rest of the time when they are most needed. It seems the problem has defeated the best minds and technical skills of those responsible for their repair. Another similar problem is experienced at the junction of Ronald Ngala and Moi Avenue where the traffic light only seems to work in the wee hours of the morning. Is this sheer incompetence or someone's idea of a joke?

A Junior officer at the KRA driving license section has reportedly been paying a KRA deputy commissioner Sh50,000 every Friday so that he is not transferred from the section. The man extorts huge sums of money from driving schools in the country and is known to be sending his boss his cut of the money every weekend. The cash is Mpesa-d to the boss every Friday. Our moles tell us that a Mombasa-based driving school is one of the biggest 'contributor' to the junior KRA officer's wellbeing and its therefore not a coincidence that the school receives the most favors from him!

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has won the admiration of many as he is always accompanied by his wife Susan whenever he attends the hearing of the petition filed against him by former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu. Even though Kidero and his wife drive into the law courts in different vehicles and use different entrances — Kidero with his distinct national and county flags using the gate reserved for judges and Susan using the public car-park— Kidero always escorts her to her car and ensures she has taken off before he goes to his car.

The wardrobe of one of the female senators seems stuck in her teen years and is causing some concern amongst her colleagues some of whom have attempted to advise her to dress with decorum and modesty deserving of her new position. She has ignored their advise and is now putting a political spin to it—that those talking about her manner of dressing are her political rivals and are using this as an attack on her party!
