Corrridors of Power

Friday, July 26, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A senior MP change of demeanor and manner has surprised many of his colleagues. The man who made a comeback to Parliament after two failed attempts has ignored the advise of close friends and peers and has opted to take a decidedly intransigent position in the ongoing turf war between the two houses of Parliament. It seems he has taken the differences personally and when he enroute to Mombasa he met with junior clerks assigned to one of the senators, the MP let rip with insults telling the astounded clerks they were nothing in his eyes.

Those who had written off former Westlands MP Fred 'Kaa Ngumu' out of the political arena might have to change their minds. The ex-MP was spotted at the Arena Fitness Centre at Sarit Centre yesterday where he was being taken round the various facilities offered at the gym before he signed up for a full year's membership. Pointing to one of the well muscled male instructors, Gumo said he wanted to be as trim and buff as the trainer by the end of his year's membership.

A multi-national involved in the inspection of imported goods has introduced a strategy aimed at keeping one step ahead of its competition. The company has asked its employees to sign a contract in which they agree not to engage in similar business or seek employment with its rivals if and when they leave. The company has also acquired the services of an influential politician to canvass for government contracts on its behalf. The company pays the politician a substantial commission. For this, the firm is highly placed to get multibillion contract which one of the government parastatals is expected to advertise soon and which has attracted the interest of several local companies.

A first time MP from western Kenya was last Friday spotted lugging a heavy travel bag and a plastic bag containing that week's order papers. The bag must have been heavy because the MP stopped after a few steps to take a breather. When asked why he was walking yet he was so overburdened, the MP said he was walking towards his car which was caught up in a jam near City Hall. He said he did not want to waste time waiting for the driver to get to him at Parliament Buildings as he had every intention of getting to his rural home that night.
