Kethi Kilonzo wants Makueni Senate by-election stopped

NAIROBI, KENYA: Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo has moved to the high court seeking to stop the MakueniSenatorial by-election after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) tribunal revoked her nomination.
In the case filed under certificate of urgency, Kethi and the Wiper Democratic Party want the court to issue an order suspending the official campaign period pending the determination of the suit she has filed.
She is seeking an injunction restraining IEBC from further preparations of the Makueni by-elections, making, printing, publishing election materials including ballot papers, promotional materials and any other publication I exclusion of the petitioner pending the hearing and determination of the suit” she submitted in the application.
Through lawyers Harun Ndubi and Julie Soweto, Kethi and the party are seeking to have the High Court quash the decision of the tribunal that barred her from contesting the by-election on the grounds that she is not a registered voter.
Kethi who has also sought to have the decision of the tribunal quashed by the High Court wants the election to be halted until the suit she has filed is heard and determined.
