The Kenya National Union of Teachers has been found guilty of contempt of court for defying a directive to end the teachers' strike and fined Sh5 million.
The union’s bosses Mr Wilson Sossion and Mudzo Nzili have also been ordered to pay Sh0.5 million each by the Industrial Court.
The two are required to pay the fines or be imprisoned for 30 days. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been directed to collect the Sh5 million fine from Knut on behalf of the Court.
The ruling marks a major turning point in the resolution of industrial disputes in the country which could in future shape the way strikes are conducted.
