The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has declared a stalemate in negotiations with the government with Chairman Wilson Sossion describing the meeting as 'nothing', adding that it may anger the striking teachers more.
Earlier, KNUT officials had demanded that officials of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) exit the negotiations at the Labour cabinet secretary's office.
The negotiations, which started at 10am at the NSSF building, are chaired by Labour Principal Secretary Ali Ishmail and attended by Knut officials alongside the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) and National Treasury and Education officials.
Kenya union of post-primary teachers (Kuppet) officials are expected to have an opportunity to present their case in the afternoon.
According to the Labour cabinet secretary, the government has presented what they are calling the 'five scenarios' to upgrade their pay perks and employ more teachers immediately.
The SRC has insisted that the demands by teachers must be fiscally sustainable, while Knut demands that its 1997 agreement be met by the government in total.
Details are still being discussed in the meeting
