KUPPET, Gov’t Negotiations Yield Fruits

KUPPET, Gov’t Negotiations Yield Fruits
The pay negotiations between Government and the teachers' union, KUPPET appears to have yielded fruits after the two parties agreed on some issues.
The two reached an agreement on commuter and responsibility allowances.

Both teams however did not reach any agreement on leave allowances as the Government argued it was not ready to pay the amount being demanded

The government agreed to harmonize teachers’ commuter and responsibility allowances with the current civil servants rate.

The government also said that it was waiting for a letter from the Ministry of Labour so that it could conclude the issue on the leave allowances.

KUPPET was however emphatic that if the government does not implement their demands on leave allowances, they would register the matter in court as dispute.

Teachers who are in job group M and L, that is Head of Departments and ordinary teachers, would now get a commuter allowance of between KSH 2,800 to KSH 8,500.

The teachers in job group R, Principals, would get commuter allowances of between KSH 4,000 to KSH 17,000.

The allowances are supposed to take effect at the end of July, 2013
