EMBUY, KENYA: Leaders in Mt Kenya East region want President Uhuru Kenyatta to run for a second term in office.
The leaders who spoke during a fundraiser for the construction of Bethsaida Hospital at ACK St Paul Cathedral in Embu town, which was attended by the president, said they would mobilise the area to vote for him in 2017.
Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti observed that the region gave President Uhuru 98 per cent votes in the March 4 General Election and they would vote for him in his second bid.
“We do not see another president coming up in this region any time soon. When President Uhuru runs for the office for another term, we will give him our votes,” said Kivuti.
Kivuti asked the president to invite leaders from the region for talks where they will “not just present demands” but will talk on how they will work together in making the Jubilee manifesto work.
Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki said they were behind the President and would support the Jubilee government to fulfill its election manifesto.
Mbiuki said the National Assembly and the Senate should end their tug of war so that the Government can build the nation, adding that they will back President Uhuru for the presidency in 2017.
Tharaka-Nithi women representative Beatrice Nkatha said President Uhuru’s government was still young and urged Kenyans to support it.
She accused some people of harassing the Government but said she was optimistic that it would deliver on its promises.
Embu Governor Martin Wambora said they will work with the national government to enable the country realise double digit economic growth.
