A man charged with stealing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s private documents and Sh8.6 million ($100,000) in cash has been acquitted.
Mr Edward Cromwell Onyango had denied the charge when he was arraigned at a Kibera court on Monday.
The acquittal followed an application by prosecutor Jacqueline Kilonzo, who said she had received a letter from the Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer with instructions to have the matter withdrawn.
Remanded for three days
On Monday, Mr Onyango was remanded at Kilimani Police Station for three days following an application by the prosecution.
Defence lawyer Roger Sagana did not oppose the application to have the case withdrawn.
Mr Onyango, allegedly being a director of Raila Odinga Centre with others not before court, stole Hospital Supplies Limited memorandum and articles of association, PIN and VAT certificate and certificate of incorporation.
He was also alleged to have stolen Metrotransit Limited certificate of incorporation, proposed construction site of the centre, Orange Democratic Movement file and the money.
The offence was alleged to have been committed on June 13 and 24 in Nairobi.
